MuseumNext 2011

MuseumNext 2011

MuseumNext, the annual international conference produced by Sumo for museums and galleries took place in Edinburgh at the end of May, bringing together 250 delegates from 23 countries to discuss how digital and social media can impact on the sector.

The two day event included presentations from some of the world’s best known institutions including Guggenheim, TATE and the Science Museum.

Jim Richardson, Sumo’s managing director and founder of the conference said ‘MuseumNext is intrinsically linked to Sumo’s aim not only to promote the arts, but to drive the use of technology to encourage audience engagement. This year the conference attracted delegates from as far away as Singapore, Qatar and Mexico as well as many of our clients from nearer to home’.

The key message from the event was that museums need to move beyond simply setting up a Facebook page or joining Twitter and think about how they can use the internet to make their organisations more open and ‘social’.

The next MuseumNext conference will take place in Barcelona in 2011.

“MuseumNext is intrinsically linked to Sumo's aim not only to promote the arts, but to drive the use of technology to encourage audience engagement.”
